Kassie Sofia

Founder & Managing Director

Registered Music Therapist, RMT

MMusThy. BMus. DipEd.

Kassie Sofia is a Registered Music Therapist (RMT) who graduated in 2013 with a Masters of Music Therapy (M.Mus.Thy) from the University of Queensland. Prior to completing her Masters, Kassie also completed a Bachelor of Music (B.Mus.) majoring in piano performance, and a Diploma in Secondary Education (Dip.Ed.). For many years whilst completing her studies, Kassie was a regular on the Brisbane music circuit, playing shows in local bands, as well as teaching piano and guitar privately. When Kassie started studying, she anticipated she would become a high-school music teacher. However whilst completing a high-school placement during her education degree, it was here that Kassie realised where her true passion for music lay - not in fact, in education, but in helping others through music.

Since studying, Kassie has worked with a diverse range of adults, young people, children and families - including young people in flexi-school settings, music groups for children and disabilities, allied health clinics, adult mental health and rehabilitation, and disability settings in schools. During her years as a therapist, Kassie has found that such a high percentage of her clients are individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), that she has developed an interest and affinity to working with disabilities, and particularly ASD. She is fascinated by just how incredibly different each individual is, with the Temple Grandin quote, "If you've met one person with autism, you've met one person with autism," really resonating with her.

Outside of work hours, Kassie loves to spend time exploring nature, painting, drawing and creating music for her own health and wellbeing, as well as spending quality time with her partner and family of four-legged friends, including her dog Monte who is also a registered Delta Therapy Dog - he sometimes likes to join Kassie in sessions, and has become an un-official but very important staff member of Rhythm Music Therapy. More recently, Kassie has also taken the plunge back into studying and is currently completing her Certificate IV in Animal Behaviour & Training, hoping to one day combine her love of Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) with music therapy.

Kassie is registered with the Australian Music Therapy Association (AMTA) and bound by their Code of Ethics. She is also a Music Therapy Supervisor for other RMT's, as well as students completing their Master's of Music Therapy.
